Who we are
Beyond the Bars is a worker organization fighting for better working conditions for low-wage, criminalized workers in South Florida. Through education, advocacy, and organizing, we challenge the exploitation of workers with arrest records — especially those bound by probation work requirements or subjected to coerced labor in prisons and work release camps.
What we do
Worker Organizing
We organize criminalized workers to take collective action in industries that rely on their labor, building strategic campaigns to shift power and practices within these industries.
Worker Education
We host workshops to increase workers' understanding of their rights and develop strategies to vindicate those rights, increasing wages and improving work conditions.
Advocacy & Research
We advocate at federal, state, and local levels to expand labor protections, ensure enforcement of existing laws, and increase workers' access to quality jobs.
Worker Support
We host poetry classes, socials, and wellness circles for our members and work with partner organizations to help criminalized workers get the help they need.
Movement Building
When labor and the anti-carceral organizers work together, working conditions improve for all. As such, we bridge movements, expanding labor's reach into carceral reform.
